Mothers Day Gifts - What To Do When It Gets Hard To Find New Gifts for Mom

Some cliché gifts for moms: flowers, chocolates, jewelry, scrapbooks, more scrapbooks, cards, gift cards and breakfast in bed. The list should cover eight years worth of mother's days and most people start the list over and over again which means mom will never get anything original. All gifts will repeat themselves every eight years. What if one year you find yourself unable to afford the pricey jewelry or flowers? What are you going to do then? Here's what you should do when you've already given mom every predictable gift there is to give for Mother's Day.

Start a new search

As hard as it may sound, there's no other way; you've got to start thinking of gift ideas for mom 'yourself'. It's not as hard as it sounds; it just involves resisting the urge to fall in line with everyone else waiting to buy a bunch of flowers.

Look for ideas

Gift ideas don't fall out of the sky; you have to look for them. The best place to start looking is in your mom's favorite magazine, catalog or her favorite store. If you really want mom to have a great day, give her some company when she goes shopping and checkout what she likes. You'll get an idea of what kind of stuff she likes. Make sure what you get her is worthy of a mother's day gift. She might need a hairbrush or maybe an ironing board, but those aren't the kind of things that make good gifts for mom.

Try an original way to gift something old

You shouldn't be reinventing the wheel but you can definitely try to modify it a bit. Flowers are out of the question but you can always look for alternatives to flowers. Try fresh fruit bouquets, they're a good alternative for flowers and mothers day fruit baskets.

How will mom feel about the gift?

Before you buy anything for mom, ask yourself how it will make her feel? It shouldn't be anything that reminds her she's getting old or that she's got something to finish up in the kitchen. The gift should make her feel appreciated and special. Take for example mothers day gift baskets; a basket filled with cookies might make her feel like a grandma, she might not like one filled with candy at all and cheese is a big no-no. Of course specialty food baskets like fruit bouquets are a good option and moms are known to love them.
